About
I purchased my first “real” camera – a Canon SX40 – at the suggestion of my good friend Arman Werth in 2012, about two days prior to visiting San Francisco, CA for the first time. I fumbled my way through San Francisco with it, but I was hooked. When I got back to Portland, I began getting out to the Columbia Gorge more often, hiking miles and miles of trails, and taking more waterfall photos than one person should ever need in one life. Nowadays I work with my 7D Mark ii, which has been by my side through Vietnam, South Africa, across Europe, and more.
While not fond of posed shots (headshots, weddings, etc.), I do photograph humans from time-to-time when the project feels right – the more improvised, the better. Instead, you’ll find me laying in fields full of rabbit poop watching fox kits play, climbing hills to catch the bird’s eye view of the terrain, or getting lost in a new city. I love to capture life exactly how it is and exists – hence the hesitation to spend time in a studio.
When I’m not taking photos I’ve worked as a web designer/developer/consultant since 2011. I also perform improv regularly in Portland, occasionally make a short film, and get my paws on any other project possible. There are never enough creative outlets…
